Follow Your Favorite Users With RSS!

As you all know, you can already follow your favorite users on dealspl.us, but now you can follow them from anywhere!  Well, almost anywhere …

You may have noticed that yesterday, we added RSS buttons to users’ profile pages.  So now, if you think one of your fellow dealspl.ussers is a deal finding pro or an expert plusser, you can just click the RSS buttons on his or her profile page to subscribe to feeds of their submitted deals or plussed deals!  Depending on your browser, you’ll be offered different options regarding how to view the feed.  We suggest that you subscribe using Google Reader or Live Bookmarks, but RSS feeds are all about convenience, so just pick the method that’s best for you.

Now, start subscribing, and follow away!

Still confused about what RSS is? Well that’s what Wikipedia is for, silly!

New Plus button and Deal page designs

We just launched a redesign of our plus button and our deal page. You’ll notice that our deal page has been cleaned up a bit. It’s not as cluttered anymore, and the information is organized in a more understandable format. The deal options for you savvy users are off to the right sidebar now. That helped us clean up the main deal portion quite a bit, while keeping the options intact.

We think the new plus button is much more understandable. There were some issues where new users didn’t really understand what the button was meant for. Hopefully the new design will be more intuitive and easier to understand.

Whether you like the new design or you hate it, we’d love to hear your comments below! Remember, you can log into our blog by using your dealspl.us username and password.

Black Friday Predictions Giveaway

We’ve teamed up with BlackFriday.FM to bring you a new giveaway. This one is pretty fun, and informative too.

As we all know, there are going to be some great deals on Black Friday, but until retailers release their ads on what’s going to be on sale, it’s all speculation! But that’s where the fun begins.

So, to take advantage of this speculative period, every day (starting 9/14/2009), a product will be posted on the front page of BlackFriday.FM. The goal is for you to predict what the price of that product will be on Black Friday, and which store will be selling it for that price. We’re trying to predict the lowest price, so you’d pick whichever store you think will give the best deal for the day’s product. You can only make one prediction per product, but don’t forget that you can make one prediction for every product that’s posted up.

You’ll need a Facebook account to take part in this giveaway. You’ll also need to be our fan. Products will be posted each day on our Facebook page. You can make your predictions there by commenting on them.

We think that this is not only a fun contest, but it’s also a great way to see what kind of prices the consensus believes will be a part of Black Friday 2009! We’ll post up the predictions in an easy-to-read format as we go, so stay tuned!

Did we mention that when the actual retail price of the sale items are released, we’ll be giving out CASH prizes to the lucky winners of each product? Yep, you’ll win the amount of the sale price in cash, which you can use to purchase the actual product on Black Friday!

Check out http://www.blackfriday.fm/giveaway/predictions.php for all the details!

The button looks like this, and is located on the left column of any deal page:

dealspl.us Tools Part 1: The Plus Button

Did you know that, with the new redesign launch, that we also released several new features for dealspl.us? One of the features we’re most excited about are the dealspl.us tools. You may already be familiar with the bookmarklet, but here’s a new one you may not have heard of: the portable plus button!

This new tool will allow you to place our plus button almost anywhere on the web. This feature is perfect if you’re a retailer looking for a bit more exposure for your products. By placing plus buttons on your product pages, your products will be automatically submitted to dealspl.us whenever one of your users clicks on it (users must be registered dealspl.us users). Clicking on the plus button will also “plus” your product, giving it a much better chance of reaching the front page, where deals are seen by more than 2 million visitors every month.

The plus button isn’t just for retailers, either. Anyone who runs a blog or any form of product website can use our button to give their users a gauge of how popular a deal or product is. Think of the button like the Digg button, but synonymous with deals (rather than news articles).

Essentially, the plus button tool acts exactly like the plus button on any of our deal pages, except now it’s portable and can be displayed anywhere!

Here’s how to use it:

First, choose a page that you want to place the plus button on (a product page of some sort, a product review, an article, etc.).

You have two choices for embedding: the regular plus button, or the mini-plus button (both shown below). Simply insert the following HTML code where ever you want the button to be displayed:

For the regular button:

<script type="text/javascript" src="http://dealspl.us/dptools/js/1/plusbtn"></script>

For the small plus button:

<a href="http://dealspl.us/add.php?pbtn=1&pbtnNw=1"><img src="http://dealspl.us/images/plus/plus.gif" border="0"></a>

And that’s it! The above two will display buttons like below (these buttons are linked to this blog article).

Regular button:

Small button:

If you need more customization options, including setting exact titles, prices, and etc for your products to be submitting by dealspl.us, please look at the plus button tool page!

Enjoy the increased visibility to your blog articles and product pages with the Plus button!

DealsPlus comes out of beta; ready to take on consumer market

In an economy where all one hears about are companies going under, taking huge losses, or hosting another round of layoffs, it’s refreshing to see a company actually growing by record numbers.

The good news for consumers is that DealsPlus, an online shopping social network, is all about helping people save money. With an estimated $3 million in affiliate sales, $8 million in overall sales, tremendous profit margins, and over 2 million unique visitors per month, it looks as if the deals business is booming.

DealsPlus, a Bay Area, California company, has other plans in the works as well. This week, it will be announcing that it’s coming out of its beta version after two-and-a-half years, as well as re-launching what is a simpler design with a more user-friendly platform. For a young company with no venture capital or angel funding, DealsPlus has certainly taken online shopping to a new level.

“We’re committed to bringing our users a more unique and interactive shopping experience, by offering several ways to share and retrieve content,” says Marketing Director, Zia Ahmad. “Users can find and share coupons or deals, rate them, create shopping lists, make friends with other shoppers, and even share money-saving tips. All in all, it’s a pretty comprehensive online shopping experience.”

DealsPlus attempts to break the monotony of “bargain” or “discount” sites by differentiating itself with a touch of personality. A video, featuring hand-drawn images of potential “DealsPlussers” explains what the site is all about, and how to use it.

>Perhaps one of the biggest ambitions of DealsPlus is that it allows retailers and merchants to create their own retail page, or store, within DealsPlus, stipulating that the merchant should post products at a discounted rate. Users benefit from lowered prices on items, and retailers benefit from increased traffic flowing to their web sites. “We’ve developed licensing agreements which allow retailers to take advantage of our ‘plus’ button, which places a counter on a retailer’s product page and tracks the number of users who approve of the deal. Highly approved deals are then shown on the front page of DealsPlus where it will be seen by over 50,000 users in one day,” says Ahmad.

“Our goal,” says site developer Calvin Lai, “is to be the Digg.com of consumer products. We want every major internet retailer to have the plus button on their site. We want it to be as common as seeing the dollar sign or the S&H acronym.”

About DealsPlus
DealsPlus is an online shopping social network focused on deals and coupons. It launched in July 2006 and has since grown to over 50,000 users, receiving more than 2 million unique visitors per month. DealsPlus is based in the Bay Area, California.

How to use the ShareThis link

You might or might not have noticed the ShareThis link on the deal pages:

So what is that little bugger anyway? We’re sure most of you were wondering that. ShareThis is a web company that launched in 2007. They provide a little widget for social sites, bloggers, and other online services. It makes it easier to share content found online with other people.

Okay, so how do I use it?

Using the ShareThis button is pretty darned easy. When you’re browsing a deal on our site, find the link as shown in the above post, and click on it. You’ll be presented with some options:

1. You can submit the content to the Social Web. In our case, the “content” is the deal that you’re looking at.

2. You can post the deal on your blog, Facebook, Myspace, etc:

3. You can send the deal to family and friends:

And there you have it! ShareThis really makes it easy for you to…well, share! So now that you know how it works, feel free to share coupons, deals, notify your friends about great deals you’ve found, or even gift ideas!
